  • What do you do in Science club?

    Posted by:

Science Club is 100% student-led.  That means that students create service projects, fundraisers, and host events.  So far in the new school year (as of Oct 15) we have elected officers, held nine lunch meetings, chosen our fall service project, hosted a welcome back campout and night-time hike, and we are currently participating in the selling of BR spirit blankets.  In the past we have taken field trips, hosted science events for elementary students, helped with annual Science Symposium at BRES, sponsored students on field trips, hosted community service projects that benefit the Samaritan Inn and other charities, sponsored local families at Christmas, completed trash pick-ups and weeding of local flower beds, and participated in many food and toy drives.

  • Why should I join Science Club?

We have FUN while helping the community.  Our mission is to promote a love of science in our community while also helping make the world a better place.  We do lots of community service projects, many of which benefit the Samaritan Inn which has been helpful to many of our local families.  We also adopt several families during the holidays, donate to the local food bank, pick up trash around Blue Ridge, and complete projects such as landscaping around the school and for the elderly.

A few times each year we go on lots of fun science trips such as camping at the Dallas zoo (yes we spend the night there!), camping and kayaking local lakes and rivers, and sometimes just dinner and a movie.  One of our favorite projects is teaching elementary students about science!  We are grateful to have each campus in our district located close-by so that we can partner in our education.
